We saw the cochlear implant specialist on Mon. and the appointment went well. She ordered an MRI and CT scan of Marygrace's ears and brain to help determine if she will be a candidate for the cochlear implant. Marygrace also saw the audiologist in the afternoon and received her hearing aides with hot pink swirl ear molds. Scott says she likes to wear them because she thinks they are pretty accessories or jewelery! She actually has been doing really well keeping them in, but it's only been 24 hours. We think she is responding to some sounds, but it is really hard to tell. We will see an auditory-verbal therapist on Thursday and the audiologist will retest her on July 23. They do not expect her to improve very much with the hearing aides, but we need to try them to prove to the insurance company that cochlear implants are medically necessary.
Have a Happy & safe 4th of July!!!

It's About Time!
Hi All,
I know it's been way too long, but four kids and the summer activities have been taking all my time and energy! However, we are all doing great especially Marygrace! She is such a happy, easy going child. She loves her brothers tons and gives us all real kisses now (she puckers up her lips, it's so sweet). Of course the boys are keeping track of who has the most kisses. Marygrace has now met most her extended family and a lot of our friends. She has been to Sunday school three times and stays by herself. We love when she runs to us when we pick her up. She spent lots of time getting to know Aunt Lynne (Scott's sister from MN), Uncle Chris, Sarah and Laura when they came to visit Father's Day weekend. She has also had play dates with cousins Sarah and Gwen (both 2 1/2 years old). Cousin Sarah had so much fun with Marygrace and the boys she spent the night (giving her mommy and daddy a much needed break after the birth of new baby Eric Thomas). These sweet little innocent 2 year old little girls (ha ha) ran around in bathing suits shooting each other with squirt guns in the house and Kelley actually allowed it (they had so much fun together)! Marygrace already has a social calender and has been to cousins Caden and Colton's birthday party and her friend Anna' s Princess Party (Kelley's friend Melanie's daughter who just turned 3!). Marygrace was a Chinese Princess in one of her silk and toole Chinese dresses. I really will try to post pictures soon!
Marygrace had her hearing tested at Children's Memorial Hospital and as expected has a severe-profound hearing loss in both ears. She consistently responded at loud levels to the frequencies tested indicating that the auditory nerve is functioning, thus she will hopefully be a candidate for the cochlear implant. We will see the implant doctor on Monday July 2 and Marygrace will also get loaner hearing aides the same day. She needs to have a hearing aid trial before she can be considered a candidate for the implants. We will know a lot more on Monday!
Thank for all the prayers and support we really believe things would not have gone so smooth thus far without them. Please continue to pray for Marygrace's adjustment and hearing issues (especially that she will be a candidate for the cochlear implant if she needs one) and for Scott and I as we walk this journey, learn all about hearing aides and implants and make difficult decisions (it's never easy when it's your own child)!
We hope you are all having a wonderful summer!
God Bless,
Scott, Kelley, Matt, Josh, Andrew & Marygrace
